The 141.7 square millimeter size I quoted above is the actual physical size of the silicon chip (this is also known as the "die size"). The nanometer size has to do with the smallest object they can create with the photolithography process hey use to etch the circuits into the silicon. As the photolithography process improves, they can create smaller and smaller devices on the silicon. 1 nanometer process chips are expected to be available in the 2027-2030 time frame.
